MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -
Around a million people gathered in downtown Buenos Aires on Sunday to celebrate the victory of the team in the World Cup in Qatar, according to estimates that account for a massive social reaction that is expected to be repeated with the arrival of the players.
Official sources quoted by the newspaper 'Clarín' estimate that more than a million people gathered in the area of the Obelisk and its surroundings, although no significant altercations were recorded.
The human tide was such that the Government supposedly considered declaring this Monday a holiday, although sources consulted by 'La Nación' consider this possibility "ruled out", which was unprecedented. The authorities have not yet agreed how and when the official reception will take place.
The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, has thanked on Twitter the congratulatory messages issued by other foreign leaders, including his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron. "We are happy and moved by this wonderful victory. Long live football and friendship between peoples", he declared.
