Scholz says he will seek re-election as German chancellor in 2025

MADRID, 8 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has affirmed this Thursday that he intends to seek re-election in the face of the elections scheduled for 2025 after spending a year as head of the country's government.

"Of course I will stand for the elections again," he stressed before thanking his followers for their support. "I have the possibility of winning even more support," she has indicated.

"I want the ruling coalition to be in good enough shape to win the mandate again," he stated before assessing his management over the past year in positive terms despite the consequences of the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

In this sense, he stressed that the Government "has managed to be stable in turbulent times with many challenges" and has assured that Germany "will endure the winter well" despite the fact that it cannot count on the supply of energy from Russia.

However, the results of a survey released this Thursday and carried out by YouGov for the DPA news agency show that two-thirds of Germans are not satisfied with the government's management.

Thus, 33 percent of those surveyed have indicated that they are "very dissatisfied", while another 33 percent have said they feel "quite dissatisfied". Only 3 percent declared themselves "very satisfied" and 23 percent "quite satisfied."

Despite these answers, only 31 percent believe that the coalition will break up prematurely, while 47 percent believe that it will last until the 2025 federal elections.
