Same-sex marriage is legalized throughout Mexico

MADRID, 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Congress of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas has carried out this Wednesday the legalization of same-sex marriage, becoming the last state to approve this rule, and thus allowing civil ties between people of the same sex throughout the country.

With 23 photos in favor, 12 against and one abstention, the Congress of the last Mexican state to legalize civil unions between people of the same sex has modified article 112 of its Civil Code thus allowing homosexual couples to marry, as reported 'The universal'.

The deputy of the Christian-democratic organization PAN Nancy Ruiz has presented the initiative in the Commission of Gender Equality, Human Rights and Legislative Studies for its subsequent vote in the Parliament of Tamaulipas, obtaining the vote in favor of the majority of the parliamentarians, except for some members of his own party.

This vote has taken place just one day after the Parliament of the state of Guerrero approved equal marriage by a large majority, leaving Tamaulipas as the last administration in all of Mexico in which homosexual people could not marry legally.

Representatives of the LGBT community were present on the congressional rostrum, who applauded after supporting the amendment that legalizes same-sex marriage throughout the country, according to the aforementioned newspaper.

Mexico began to legalize same-sex marriage in March 2010, when Mexico City, the capital, became the first state entity to establish legislation in this regard. Twelve years later, marriage between same-sex couples is legal throughout the country.
