Russia claims to have taken control of new positions as part of its Donetsk offensive

MADRID, 21 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Russia has assured this Wednesday that it has taken new positions in the framework of its offensive in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk and has stressed that "more than 80 Ukrainian soldiers" have died in the fighting, in the framework of the invasion unleashed on 24 February by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"In the framework of the offensive actions, Russian troops have occupied new dominant elevated areas and lines in the direction of Donetsk," said the spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, adding that a tank and three infantry vehicles, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Donetsk is one of the main epicenters of hostilities in recent weeks. Russia announced in September the annexation of this region along with those of Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia, all of them partially occupied in the framework of the invasion. Likewise, Donetsk and Lugansk, located in Donbas, have been the scene of a conflict with the Ukrainian central authorities since 2014.
