At least four police officers and ten civilians have been injured after the frustrated takeover of the Inca Manco Cápac airport, in the Peruvian city of Juliaca, in the south of the country, which has announced its temporary closure for security reasons.

The Ombudsman in Peru has confirmed that at least 14 injured after the confrontations that have taken place in the vicinity of the airport this Friday. At this time, at least six people remain admitted to the Carlos Monge Medrano hospital in Juliaca, some of them with gunshot wounds and a serious prognosis.

According to the RPP chain, the protesters arrived at the terminal throwing stones and other objects with the idea of ​​penetrating the runway, in which attempt they also burned a police car. Security agents, who were inside the airport as a security measure, dispersed the protesters with tear gas canisters.

For its part, the company Aeropuertos Andinos de Perú has confirmed the temporary closure of the airport due to anti-government protests.

"Our Inca Manco Cápac airport in Juliaca has suspended its operations as of today, January 6 in the afternoon, due to the acts of violence and the lack of security in its vicinity that put the safety of our team and passengers at risk," he said. shared the operating company.

The protesters demand the resignation of the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress as well as the advancement of the general elections to 2023.
