Pro-Russian authorities in Donetsk will denounce Ukrainian torture of prisoners of war to the ICRC

MADRID, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The pro-Russian authorities of the Donetsk Republic announced this Friday their intention to denounce to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations Human Rights Committee alleged practices of torture carried out by Ukrainian forces against more of a hundred Russian prisoners released this week.

According to the Donetsk Ombudsman's Office, these are 110 Russian citizens returned from territory controlled by kyiv, including 72 Russian sailors from civilian ships held since February 2022, and whose release was announced by Russia last Monday.

"We interviewed all the boys and we understand that 100 percent of those released were subjected to torture," said the head of the office, Daria Morozova, in statements collected by the Russian news agency TASS.

Given the conclusions, Morozova has announced her intention to resort to both international organizations to evaluate the situation. Likewise, Morozova has also transferred the results of the interviews to the Investigative Commission and the office of the Military Prosecutor of the Russian Federation.
