Civil Protection of Portugal has declared an orange alert in eight districts due to the forecast of heavy rain for this Monday and due to the risk of flooding in urban areas and landslides.

"It has been decided in the 'briefing' of the National Operational Coordination Center to raise the special alert status to the orange level in the districts of Braga, Viana do Castelo, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Setúbal and Lisbon", he explained. the national commander of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority of Portugal (ANEPC), André Fernandes.

The orange level is the second most serious on a scale of four and represents a high risk with the possibility of unusual phenomena that can cause personal and property damage.

The critical period is scheduled between 9:00 p.m. on Monday and 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, with the possibility of storms and strong gusts of wind with special attention to the north coast, the center and the metropolitan area of ​​Lisbon, according to the news agency. Lusa.

The watersheds of the Mino, Lima, Cávado, Ave, Duero, Vouga, Mondego, Tajo and Sorraia rivers have also been alerted.
