Lavrov affirms that Zelensky "does not understand the seriousness of the situation"

MINSK, 20 Dic. (DPA/EP) -

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky of "lack of understanding of the gravity of the moment and lack of concern for his people."

"He just bubbles up ideas," Lavrov said in an interview on Monday on the Belarus 1 television channel in Minsk, later reported by the DPA agency.

According to the head of Russian diplomacy, the ideas of the Ukrainian president in turn reveal "the racist character" of the kyiv leaders.

At the same time, Lavrov has lashed out at the West, saying that the "hysterical reaction" to the "special military operation" -- as the invasion of Ukraine is called in official Moscow jargon -- has confirmed Russia's view that the war had been "absolutely necessary".

Previously, the foreign minister had acknowledged that "it makes no sense" for Moscow to maintain the same diplomatic presence in Western countries as before the outbreak of the war.

According to the top Russian diplomatic representative, Russian diplomatic employees work in most Western countries in conditions that "can hardly be called humane," according to the Russian news agency TASS.
