Japan wants G7 to unite against China's "economic coercion"

MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Japanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Yasutoshi Nishimura, has indicated this Thursday that his country's desire is that the G7 adopt a coordinated approach to prevent China's "economic coercion" with respect to its trading partners.

"We hope that effective responses to economic coercion will be an important point at this year's G-7 summit," Yasutoshi said, according to the Japanese media Sankei.

In this sense, the head of the economic portfolio has warned that the power in economic terms of authoritarian countries is a "big weapon", for which reason he has appealed to the need to strengthen economic security and deterrence in cooperation with other countries.

Thus, he has emphasized that "strengthening cooperation in export control is extremely important" so that the technologies do not represent a threat to security.

"The qualitative and quantitative strengthening of military power, including the expansion of military spending and the buildup of nuclear forces, is increasing the threat to neighboring countries," Yasutoshi added.
