Japan to force travelers from China to undergo two COVID-19 tests

MADRID, 4 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, has announced a new tightening of measures for travelers arriving in the country from China, in such a way that they must undergo a coronavirus test before and after air travel.

The measure, which will enter into force on Sunday, is added to a government request to airlines not to increase direct connections between China and Japan, in an attempt to prevent a new rebound in the COVID-10 pandemic linked to the explosion of cases in Chinese territory.

"We have decided to reinforce the temporary measures taking into account the results of the tests of those who have arrived during the year-end holidays," Kishida explained, according to the Kiodo news agency. On Sunday, China will stop requiring travelers arriving from abroad to quarantine.

On Tuesday, the Chinese government threatened to retaliate against countries that impose new restrictions, considering that these are political and not medical measures, since the coronavirus variants detected in the Asian giant are already circulating in other parts of the world.
