Japan to allocate 35 billion euros for long-range missiles in its next five-year defense plan

MADRID, 7 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Japan is considering spending about 5 trillion yen (about 35 billion euros) to deploy long-range missiles from 2023 to 2027.

The plan of the government of Fumio Kishida points to a program of "counterattack capacity", after the rise of tensions in the region due to the military build-up of China and the launching of ballistic missiles from North Korea.

Of the amount budgeted in the plan, at least 1 trillion yen will be used to extend the range of ship-based surface guided missiles as well as diversify launch platforms.

About 800 billion yen will go towards developing high-speed aerial weapons to defend the southern islands of the archipelago, as well as hypersonic missiles.

Along these lines, the ruling party has set itself the goal of almost doubling the country's defense spending to two percent of GDP, which was currently limited to one percent, by maintaining a limited security posture through the Constitution to self-defense. .
