Italy extradites to Germany a German from the far-right group that intended to carry out a coup

ROME, 19 Dic. (DPA/EP) -

A court in the Italian city of Perugia has authorized this Monday the extradition to Germany of a former officer of the German Armed Forces detained in an operation against Citizens of the Reich, an extreme right-wing organization that sought to overthrow the German Government.

The 64-year-old German citizen was the subject of a Eurowarrant issued from Germany and for which he was arrested on December 7 at a hotel in Ponte San Giovanni, near Perugia, the Italian agencies ANSA and ADNKronos report.

The Italian authorities were alerted to the arrival of this individual in the country and have been monitoring him ever since. As soon as the Eurowarrant was issued, he was arrested.

At least 25 suspects, including former lawmaker from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, have been detained in connection with the group, which follows a conglomerate of conspiracy myths and has been labeled a terrorist by the government.

Those arrested belong to an organization whose alleged leaders have been identified as 'Ruediger' and 'Prince Henrich XIII'. The latter would be the great-great-grandson of Wilhelm II of Germany, the last German emperor and King of Prussia, who was forced to abdicate in 1918 after the First World War.
