Iranian authorities deny rapes of women in the country's prisons

MADRID, 8 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Iranian authorities have denied that women incarcerated in the country's prisons are being victims of rape and other types of sexual abuse.

This rejection comes a week after the IranWire news portal published a recording of a 22-year-old girl who took her own life after being raped by members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards during her imprisonment in a prison in northwest Iran. .

Accompanying the IranWire report were statements by the activist Fatemeh Davand, who denounced that at least eight young people, including a minor under 17 years of age, were raped by Revolutionary Guard officials during their interrogation, in the context of the protests that broke out in the country against the death in custody of the young Mahsa Amini, on December 16.

In response, the Public Relations department of the Penitentiary Organism has assured that "all actions, including arrest, referral to judicial authorities and treatment of inmates are carried out by employees."

"Places of detention for women deprived of liberty in the country's penitentiary centers have adequate living conditions and guarantee full respect for the dignity of women deprived of liberty and their civil rights," they add in the note, collected by the news agency of the Iranian Judiciary, Mizan.

"This organization reserves the right to sue all those who spread false news," the note concludes.
