Germany offers help to Ukraine for its possible accession to the EU

KIEV, Nov. 4 (DPA/EP) -

The Minister of Justice of Germany, Marco Buschmann, has offered this Friday help to the Ukrainian authorities in the face of its possible entry into the European Union during his visit to kyiv, the country's capital.

Buschmann, who has met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Denis Maljuska, has indicated that Berlin supports the country "in complying with the legal standards within the framework of the admission process to be part of the community bloc".

Thus, he stressed that the German authorities will help kyiv "achieve the necessary reforms and put an end to corruption, which continues to be a problem for Ukraine even during the war."

This is the minister's first visit to the country since the invasion began on February 24. "We are with Ukraine and we will continue to provide support in the future," he said.

Buschmann has also met with the mayor of kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, before the anti-aircraft alarms began to sound. Maljuska, for her part, has said that she appreciates the words of the German Government and has valued that they have traveled to the country despite the situation.
