Germany considers the option of a truce in Ukraine "frivolous" since Russia would keep the occupied territories

MADRID, 29 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has ruled out any kind of truce at this time in regards to the war in Ukraine, as it would mean Russia keeping the territories it has occupied so far."Recommendations for a truce Now they are frivolous," he said.

"A truce at this point would be to sign what has already happened, the injustice. A truce now would mean that Russia would keep the occupied territories and with it the border violations and disregard for international law," the German president asserted in an interview for the Deutsche Welle chain.

Steinmeier has criticized recent Russian attacks on critical infrastructure in Ukraine, a "brutal" war strategy, he has said, as it focuses on civilian targets. "Ukrainians are threatened by hardship, darkness and cold," she said.

On the other hand, Steinmeier has highlighted the role of Germany in this war and pointed out that the protests initially expressed by the Ukrainian authorities about Berlin's reluctance to interfere in the conflict are past waters.

"Criticism of the existing German arms support has calmed down. There is a lot of gratitude today," said Steinmeier, who was one of the notable absentees at the summit of European leaders held in kyiv shortly after the start of the war. "I compensated with the visit in October", she has settled.
