Gantz promises to send more aid to Ukraine but rules out supplying weapons

MADRID, 24 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Israel's Defense Minister Benny Gantz promised on Monday that the country would send more aid to Ukraine but ruled out supplying weapons due to "operational restrictions" in a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Oleksi Reznikov.

Gantz has thus transferred his condolences for the "lost lives and the serious humanitarian situation" in Ukraine, as indicated in a statement by his office after receiving information about the latest events in the framework of the Russian invasion.

Thus, he highlighted Israel's support in "helping to save lives and offer defense systems", although both ministers have agreed to hold talks "immediately" to facilitate the provision of warning systems for civilians.

The conversation comes after Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba, asked Israel for the "immediate" supply of air defense systems in a letter addressed to the government.

However, Kuleba himself has recognized that it is difficult to change Israel's mind regarding opening up to cooperate in air defense matters, an aspect in which he stands out with his so-called 'Iron Dome'.
