EU approves sanctions against five Iranian individuals and three entities for supplying drones to Russia

The European Union has approved this Thursday sanctions against five people and three Iranian entities for the supply of kamikaze drones to Russia, used in attacks against civilians in Ukraine.

"After three days of talks, the EU ambassadors have agreed on measures against entities that provide Iranian drones that attack Ukraine," confirmed the Czech presidency of the Council, after detailing that the measures will come into force this afternoon after his publication in the Official Journal of the EU.

European sources confirm to Europa Press that the restrictions will affect five people and three entities involved in the supply of these unmanned aircraft, in measures that could attack aeronautical companies.

These sanctions respond to the wave of Russian attacks against civilian targets in Ukraine with Iranian-made drones, in a new escalation of the conflict and that has returned violence to cities like kyiv. The step comes after this Monday the bloc's foreign ministers asked to amass evidence of Tehran's involvement and agreed to act accordingly.

"So far we have collected enough evidence," community spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said at a press conference on Wednesday, indicating that sanctions were imminent.

In this way, the EU raises its tone against Iran and approves the second round of sanctions in just a few days, after formally adopting measures on Monday against 15 Iranian individuals and entities responsible for the repression of the demonstrations due to the death in police custody of the young Mahsa Amini, including the head of the Morale Police, Mohamed Rostami
