Erdogan apologizes to the population of Adiyaman for the delay in delivering aid after the earthquakes

MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has asked this Monday the population of the province of Adiyaman, in the southeast of the country, for the delay registered in the delivery of aid after the earthquakes registered on February 6 and that have left more of 50,000 deaths in Turkish and Syrian territory.

Erdogan, who is visiting Adiyaman precisely, lamented that "unfortunately, after the earthquakes, aid did not reach Adiyaman due to bad weather conditions, aftershocks and difficulties on the ground due to damaged infrastructure."

"We were unable to carry out any such work. For that, I apologize. We are aware of this and no one should doubt that we will do what is necessary. We accelerate the rescue efforts and activities to deliver aid to our brothers in Adiyaman who are found under the ruins," he asserted.

Subsequently, the president went to the Disaster Coordination Center, where he was updated on the latest events in the city. In addition, he has warned that the more than 10,000 aftershocks registered since the earthquakes, according to information from the Anatolia news agency.

Erdogan, who has wished the best for Adiyaman and the entire region, has reported that some 62,500 residents of the area have been evacuated to other cities. "In Adiyaman, 6,013 citizens, most from the center, have lost their lives, and another 17,499 have been injured," she said.

"I wish the injured a speedy recovery," he pointed out before clarifying that the majority of evacuees have moved to Istanbul. "We will not let our 70,000 brothers in Adiyaman suffer," she said.
