Denmark agrees to a new coalition government formation after more than a month of negotiations

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Danish social democrats, liberals and moderates have agreed on a political alliance to form a new government in the country, after weeks of negotiations following election day on November 1.

The leader of the Social Democratic party and acting prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, announced to Queen Margaret on Tuesday night the agreement to form the cabinet between her party, the liberals, and the moderates. "These are the three parties that have agreed to come together and take responsibility," she said.

"Almost six weeks ago I was given the task of investigating whether it would be possible to form a broad government in Denmark. And tonight I informed Her Majesty the Queen that I would (form it)," Frederiksen told the press, as has picked up the string DR.

The new Executive will be presented on Thursday, however, this Wednesday the leaders of the three parties will present the new government's policy at a press conference, the acting 'premier' reported.

Frederiksen, who has branded the new alliance as "politically very competent", has maintained that they have set "big ambitions" to guarantee greater employment and climate measures.

"What characterizes this government? Greater cooperation, that is what we want to have together in political terms. It will also be a work community", he explained before qualifying that "the fact that different parties join the government does not mean that agree on everything."

The left-wing coalition led by Mette Frederiksen won the elections held on November 1 in the country with 87 seats and more than 49 percent of the votes, which has allowed the president to remain in government.

After the exit polls predicted that neither the left-wing nor the right-wing blocs were going to have the possibility of reaching a majority, the final count of the votes gave victory to the left, as reported by the public channel TV2.
