Colombia confirms the death of the 'number two' of the Clan del Golfo

MADRID, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Colombian Police have confirmed the death of "number two" of the narco-paramilitary Clan del Golfo, Wilmar Giraldo Quiroz, alias "Siopas", who was fighting for control of the armed organization.

"We have found the body of Wilmar Antonio Giraldo Quiroz, alias 'Siopas', second leader of the AGC (Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia), a twelve-year-old criminal profile within this organized armed group," said Colonel Óscar Dueñas, commander of the Urabá Police, as reported by RTVC.

The Colombian authorities announced this Wednesday the identity of the deceased, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the municipality of Dabeiba, in the Antioquia region.

However, sources close to the armed group have indicated that the leader was murdered several days ago, despite the fact that this is when the death has been made public, reported 'El Espectador'.

In fact, intelligence sources in the country had warned about his disappearance for several weeks. According to one of the preliminary hypotheses of the security agencies, his disappearance and subsequent death would be linked to an internal reckoning.

'Siopias' shared command in the group with Jobanis de Jesús Ávila Villadiego, known as 'Chiquito Malo', after the capture of Dairo Antonio Úsuga, alias 'Otoniel', in May 2022.

The Clan del Golfo is in talks with the Colombian government to participate in the 'total peace' project, accepting a bilateral ceasefire.
