China to allow group tours of Chinese citizens abroad

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China has announced this Saturday that group travel for tourism purposes will resume from next February 6 to 20 countries.

Group tours of Chinese citizens, organized by travel agencies and online tour operators, will again be allowed as part of China's policy to relax its restrictions against the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the ministry statement, the destinations that can accommodate these trips will be Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Laos, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Russia, Switzerland, Hungary , New Zealand, Fiji, Cuba, Argentina.

The sale of air ticket packages plus hotel stays will also resume at the same time.

From the Asian ministry they affirm that this measure is still a "pilot project" and ask their citizens for responsibility and attention to sanitary measures.

According to the Chinese newspaper 'Shine', the Shanghai-based online travel operator Trip.com has reported that searches for group trips abroad have increased by nearly 500 percent after the government's announcement, with Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Cambodia as the most popular destinations. "We have been waiting for this day for three years," said the director of the aforementioned company, Jiang Wen.
