China calls on US to end "obsession with containing Beijing" ahead of Blinken's visit

MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Chinese authorities have asked the United States on Wednesday to end the "obsession to contain Beijing" in view of the visit of Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, scheduled for next week.

"The United States must put an end to this obsession now," the government has indicated in an editorial published in the state newspaper 'People's Daily' in which it has asked Washington to set aside this type of foreign policy.

In this sense, he pointed out that the two countries "have differences and have had disputes in the past", something that "should not be an obstacle to the development of the bilateral relationship".

The article calls for avoiding "anti-China" policies and urges the US authorities to find "common ground to address global economic recovery, fight climate change and deal with geopolitical issues."

Chinese President Xi Jinping himself has requested on several occasions "to avoid a Cold War between the parties, not to support the independence of Taiwan and to stop working with allies to take action against the country." "The Taiwanese issue is at the center of China's interests," he pointed out.
