Chile asks to investigate "any violation of Human Rights" during the protests in Peru

MADRID, 17 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Chile has expressed its alarm this Friday over the Human Rights situation and institutional crisis in Peru, highlighting the death of at least 15 people since the start of the protests that are taking place throughout the Andean country, a situation for which it has requested an investigation.

This was stated in a statement by the Chilean Foreign Minister, Antonia Urrejola, stating that "any violation of Human Rights must be duly investigated."

"Chile deplores the death of at least fifteen people, according to figures from the Mission in Peru of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)", wields the letter released by Chilean diplomacy.

Thus, the Latin American country has reported that it is "following closely" the development of events in the country, and has called for an end to violence and for a "prompt solution to the crisis, adhering to democratic channels and obligations international standards for the protection of Human Rights and fundamental freedoms".

All in all, the Chilean Executive has shown its willingness to work together with the rest of the international community, contributing to a "broad and inclusive process of the different social and political actors in Peru" that is capable of generating the conditions for a democratic governance based on the sovereign will of the Peruvian people.
