Castillo asks the Inter-American Human Rights Commission to intercede for his rights

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former president of Peru Pedro Castillo has appealed to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to intercede both for his rights and for those of those citizens related to his figure and who have taken to the streets in recent days after the dismissal and arrest of the ex-president.

"Enough is enough! The abuse, humiliation and mistreatment continues," reads a letter handwritten by Castillo himself, and which has been published on his official profile on the social network Twitter, in which he rejects the request for 18 months of pretrial detention requested by the Prosecutor's Office.

Faced with this situation, the former president has requested the intervention of the inter-American body and has taken the opportunity to directly accuse the country's judges and prosecutors as "responsible (...) for what happens in the country."

After seeing how the Supreme Court rejected his appeal to provisional detention on Tuesday, Castillo is now waiting for a decision on whether he should spend 18 months in preventive prison, as requested by the Prosecutor's Office.

In these, the former president has appealed to his followers to go to the Peruvian National Police detention center in Lima, where he is still deprived of his liberty, to receive him when his preliminary detention ends, this past Wednesday at noon.

Castillo is in custody after he announced the dissolution of Congress and the establishment of an emergency government on December 7. His decree, which did not receive any support, ended up leading Parliament to support a motion of censure against him and his subsequent arrest by the country's Police.

This Wednesday the term of his preliminary detention ends, although the Prosecutor's Office has requested 18 months in prison for Castillo from the Peruvian Justice.

However, now the Judiciary has a period of 48 hours to schedule a hearing on this request made by the Prosecutor's Office, all as part of the already official investigation against the former president for rebellion.
