Boris Johnson quits the Conservative Party leadership race

MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced his resignation from the leadership of the Conservative Party and therefore to return to being the head of the British Government after failing to achieve the necessary support among the 'Tory' deputies.

Johnson has explained that he has not been able to reach an agreement with the other two contenders, Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt. "I'm afraid the best thing I can do is allow my candidacy to advance and commit my support to whoever gets it," Johnson said, according to the British network Sky News.

"I think I have a lot to offer, but I'm afraid it's just not the right time," added Johnson, who has won public support from 59 of 357 Conservative MPs. He had to present the formal support of a hundred before this Monday at 2:00 p.m.
