Boluarte advocates extending the truce in social protests in Peru until after Christmas

MADRID, 23 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has advocated this Friday for extending beyond the Christmas dates the truce in the social protests that have been registered in the country in recent weeks and in the framework of which more than twenty have died of people.

"I want to tell those politicians and leaders who are behind the violence that this truce is not just for Christmas or the New Year, but that it is (...) from now on," Boluarte said before the microphones of the RPP radio station. .

The president has indicated that it is only through peace that the institutions will be able to reach "good agreements" and resolve those "problems" that affect Andean society and that "with just reason the brothers of Peru are claimed."

Peru has been the scene of protests for more than two weeks after the dismissal and subsequent arrest of former President Pedro Castillo, accused of trying to carry out a "coup" by dissolving Parliament and decreeing an emergency government.

That decision was not supported by the powers of the State and, finally, Castillo was removed from his position in favor of Boluarte, until then 'number two' of the Head of State.

The situation has led to social protests whose main demands involve the departure of Boluarte from the Andean Presidency and the calling of new elections.
