Bolsonaro continues to close the gap with Lula in the polls 10 days before the elections

Ten days before the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil takes place, the current Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), continues to close the gap with his adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), according to data published by a new poll.

Specifically, the candidate of the Workers' Party would obtain 49 percent of the total votes, compared to the 45 percent support that Bolsonaro would receive, staying just four points away from his opponent, according to the Datafolha pollster and 'Folha de Sao Paulo' has reported.

In addition to the support for the respective candidates for the Presidency of Brazil, four percent of the participants in the survey have confirmed that they will vote blank or null, while the remaining one percent have confessed that they have not yet decided which ballot they will put at the polls.

In a poll conducted last week by Datafolha, Lula da Silva had 49 percent of the support, while the Brazilian president had 44 percent, one point less than in the poll published on Wednesday.

The oscillation of the margin of error makes the PT candidate vary between 47 and 51 percent of the total votes, while for Bolsonaro the percentages could change from 43 to 47 percent, as reported by the aforementioned newspaper.

These data favor the current president, since in its maximum limit there could be a technical tie between the two candidates for the first time since the electoral call began, although this is a "statistically unlikely" scenario for Datafolha.

Meanwhile, the one percent of undecided could tip the balance to one side and the other, as well as the rate of people who would vote blank.

All in all, according to the pollster, among the voters who in the first round of the elections voted for Simone Tebet (PDT), who came in third place, 34 percent would vote in the second round for Lula da Silva, while the 29 percent would do it for Bolsonaro. Another 21 percent would support neither.

As for those who supported Ciro Gomes (PDT), fourth in the first round, 33 percent would vote for Lula da Silva, 44 percent for Bolsonaro, and another 21 percent for no one.

In the first round, on Sunday, October 2, Lula obtained 48.4 percent of the valid votes, compared to 43.2 percent for Bolsonaro. In third place, Simone Tebet (MDB) was left with 4.2 percent; behind, Ciro Gomes (PDT), with three percent.
