Blinken asks Peru to carry out the "necessary reforms" to "safeguard the stability" of the country

MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United States has asked the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, that the country's authorities make the "necessary reforms" to protect the country's stability.

The Secretary of the Department of State, Antony Blinken, transmitted this request to the Peruvian president during a telephone conversation they had this Friday.

Blinken would have "encouraged Peru's civil institutions and authorities to redouble their efforts to carry out the necessary reforms and safeguard democratic stability," as explained by the Department's spokesman, Ned Price, through a statement.

Likewise, he has urged a "constructive dialogue" between political and social actors "to alleviate political divisions and focus on reconciliation," while indicating that Washington will collaborate with Boluarte to improve "shared values."

"The United States looks forward to working closely with President Boluarte on shared goals and values related to democracy, human rights, security, the fight against corruption, and economic prosperity," the letter reads.

The Peruvian president thanked Blinken this Friday for his support of the Peruvian government, as well as his willingness to nurture the relationship between the two countries.

"The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, spoke by telephone with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who reiterated the support of the United States for the Government he leads," the Peruvian Presidency said in a message on the social network Twitter.

"Blinken has said that Peru is an important ally of the United States and has offered to continue supporting the democratic institutional process," said a statement released by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.
