At least two police officers killed and 18 injured after the capture of Ovidio Guzmán in Sinaloa, Mexico

At least two police officers have died and 18 people have been injured in various clashes that are taking place in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, after the Mexican authorities arrested Ovidio Guzmán, alias 'El Ratón', son of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, the drug trafficker Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán.

The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, has reported the balance of victims, noting that it is "very likely" that among the injured there are people who make up organized crime groups.

Likewise, Rocha has asked citizens not to go out into the streets to protect themselves "from armed people", while announcing the suspension of classes and administrative work by the federal government, as reported by the newspaper ' The Sun of Sinaloa'.

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has reported that an operation against organized crime is being carried out in Culiacán, the most populous city in Sinaloa. However, he has not given more details, stating that he does not know the facts, for which he has urged to wait for official information from the local authorities.

For its part, the airline Aeroméxico has temporarily canceled air operations in Ciudad Obregón, in the state of Sonora, in the northwestern part of the country, after initially communicating that it was suspending flights only this Thursday.

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency has confirmed that two aircraft had registered bullet impacts, one from the aforementioned company, Aeronméxico, and another air vehicle from the Mexican Air Force. For this reason, several airports --Culiacán, Mazatlán and Los Mochis-- are under the control of federal authorities.
