At least seven people have died from a landslide caused by heavy rains in the Venezuelan town of Puerto la Cruz, in the state of Anzoátegui, in the north of the country.
Specifically, the bodies of six people have been found in Puerto La Cruz, while that of a child has been found in the nearby town of Guanta, as detailed by the governor of Anzoátegui, Luis Marcano, in a statement.
"As a result of the intense rains yesterday, Thursday, three other people have been found deceased in the Valle Verde sector of Puerto la Cruz, with which there are already seven people who have lost their lives in our state due to the effects presented between Sotillo and Guanta. Marcano stated on his Twitter account.
The regional president has detailed that some 300 homes have been "severely affected" by the heavy rains recorded in the area in recent days, also adding that a multitude of damages to infrastructure and road closures have been recorded, according to 'Últimas Noticias' '.
For this reason, Marcano has assured that "all the necessary actions to overcome the emergency in Puerto la Cruz have been taken", pointing out that the priority is to protect those affected in their needs and move forward with the cleaning of roads to have "accurate evaluations of the impact generated by landslides".
