MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Peruvian Ombudsman's Office reported this Saturday that at least 16 protesters and four police officers have been injured in protests in the city of Andahuaylas, in the Peruvian department of Apurímac, located in the south of the country.

Through their official Twitter profile, they have confirmed these figures and have called on the population not to use violence in their protests, while reminding the Police that "any action to restore public order must be carried out within the framework of the use of force law.

The agency has also demanded the immediate release of Police non-commissioned officer Walter Silvera Obregón who had been held by the protesters, although they later confirmed that police officers, in the plural, had been released. After what he has indicated that the case would be investigated by the Prosecutor's Office.

At the moment it is unknown what the meaning of the protest was, but in the previous days the demonstrations registered in the town expressed their support for the former president dismissed on Wednesday, Pedro Castillo, according to CNN en Español.

The Ombudsman's Office, in turn, has reported that it is confirming the status of the people detained at the police station and coordinating with the health teams to ensure that the injured receive adequate hospital care.
