Abbas meets with the heads of the intelligence services of Egypt and Jordan before receiving Blinken

MADRID, 31 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas, held a meeting on Tuesday with the heads of the Egyptian and Jordanian intelligence services, hours before receiving the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, in Ramallah, with whom he is already meeting .

The meeting with the heads of the Egyptian and Jordanian intelligence services, Abbas Kamel and Ahmed Hatuqai, respectively, had the objective of analyzing the security situation in the face of the rise in tensions, according to the Palestinian news agency Maan.

At the moment, no further details about the meeting, which takes place as part of Blinken's visit to the region, have been released. The US Secretary of State arrived in Israel on Monday after a visit to Egypt, from where he has asked the parties to reduce tensions.

Hours earlier, Blinken held a meeting with representatives of Palestinian civil society during which he stressed that the Joe Biden Administration wants to "renew and strengthen its ties with the Palestinian people." "Part of it is an interaction not only at the government level, but with you, members of civil society, and in particular entrepreneurs, businessmen and people who help create opportunities and a future for all," he said.

Tensions have risen in recent months, including the killing of around 30 Palestinians so far this year in security operations and clashes with Israeli security forces. On Friday, seven people were killed in an attack carried out by a Palestinian in the Neve Yaakov settlement, while two other Israelis were wounded on Saturday after being shot by a thirteen-year-old Palestinian.
