A US company offers Ukraine two advanced drones for one dollar if it bears shipping and maintenance costs

MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A US arms manufacturer has offered to sell two advanced Reaper MQ-9 drones to Ukraine for $1 if it pays for shipping and servicing older aircraft, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

The agreement offered by the General Atomics company requires kyiv to pay about ten million dollars (about 9.2 million euros) for the preparation and shipment of the drones and eight million dollars (about 7.4 million euros) to the year to maintain older devices that are not used in Ukraine now.

Likewise, the proposal, which was transferred last week to the Ukrainian authorities, includes a ground control station to operate the drones, always according to information from 'The Wall Street Journal'.

The White House, which would have to approve the sale, has not ruled on the matter, something that kyiv has not done either. A General Atomics spokesman said he could not comment on specific deals, though he has argued that the company "believes Ukraine needs capabilities like the Reaper, and soon."

"General Atomics has been discussing the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with its government for many months and remains committed to supporting them in any way possible," company spokesman Mark Brikley said.

The United States has so far delivered more than 700 drones to Ukraine -- including tactical devices that can be used to carry out attacks -- in the face of the Russian military offensive, although the Reaper is a more sophisticated device with greater range, speed and capabilities.
