A magnitude 6 earthquake shakes the capital of El Salvador without causing damage

MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

An earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale recorded off the coast of El Salvador has shaken the country's capital on Thursday, although the threat of a tsunami has been ruled out for the time being.

Around 10:30 p.m. (local time), an earthquake occurred off the Costa de la Libertad, 37 kilometers south of the beach closest to the epicenter of the earthquake, which has been recorded at a depth of 41 kilometers, according to informed the Salvadoran Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

Users on social networks have reported having felt the tremor in the capital, San Salvador, as well as in other towns in the southwest of the country, reported 'La Prensa Gráfica'.

Although the threat of a tsunami has been ruled out, the authorities have called on citizens to be alert to aftershocks or any emergency that could be generated by the strong movement of the earth.

So far no material damage or personal casualties have been reported.
