A group of 70 Ukrainian servicemen begin to receive training in Germany for the use of the Patriot system

BERLIN, 2 Feb. (DPA/EP) -

A group of 70 Ukrainian servicemen have arrived in Germany to receive training in the use of the Patriot air defense system, which Berlin has placed in the hands of kyiv to deal with Russian air attacks.

The group arrived in Germany during the day on Tuesday and began its training on Thursday, according to security sources cited by the German news agency DPA.

The German government agreed in January to send a Patriot defense system to Ukraine after a consultation process with the United States. Likewise, the units deployed in Poland indicated on Wednesday that they were in an "initial operational preparation".

Germany offered to send these systems to Poland after two people died in early November after a missile fell on Polish territory. The shell was fired by Ukrainian defense systems in response to a Russian attack.
