The attorney general appears tomorrow in the Senate for the annual report in full controversy over the penal reform

MADRID, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, will appear tomorrow Thursday before the Senate Justice Commission to report on the annual report of the Public Ministry in full controversy over the penal reforms derived from what is known as the "only yes is yes" law. , and the law that repeals the crime of sedition and modifies that of embezzlement.

The Prosecutor's Office published its annual report last September and, according to the Senate's website, García Ortiz himself addressed the president of the Upper House, Ander Gil, in November to ask him to tell him what day and at what time he should appear before the Justice Commission to present the text corresponding to 2022.

The head of the Public Ministry will attend this Thursday, at 4:00 p.m., to present to the senators the 1,574-page document that includes references to how crime evolves, crime prevention and proposals for legislative reforms for a "more effective" Justice ", compiling the work of the different territorial and specialized Prosecutor's Offices.

Among the legislative reforms included in the text is García Ortiz's request to carry out an "urgent" reform of the data protection law for the purposes of criminal investigations in order to return powers to prosecutors.

Parliamentary sources consulted by Europa Press have influenced, however, that some of the senators plan to ask the attorney general for other reforms. Specifically, due to the latest ones that have entered into force and that have been involved in controversy: the reform of the Penal Code by Organic Law 10/2022 on the Comprehensive Guarantee of Sexual Freedom, known as the 'law of only yes is yes' , and for the repeal of sedition and the modification of embezzlement.

The first of the reforms has led to the downward revision of more than 500 prison sentences for those convicted of sexual crimes; the second, for its part, has led the Supreme Court to review the sentence of the process and to extinguish the disqualification sentences for the pro-independence leaders Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart, as well as for the former councilors of the Generalitat of Catalonia Joaquim Forn and Jordi Rull, and for the former president of Parliament Carme Forcadell.

The State Attorney General, who will appear before the Senate tomorrow for the first time since he took office, took office for the first time on September 5, precisely, during a visit to King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Palace to present him with of the Annual Report corresponding to the activity carried out by the Prosecutor's Office.
