The Aging Research Center opens in Elche to "lead" international advances

ALICANTE, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The offices of the Center for Research on Aging (ICAR) have opened their doors this Friday in Elche (Alicante), with the aim of leading international research on aging, to contribute to "living as long as possible in good health and full capacities physical and mental."

This was highlighted this Friday by the Minister of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, Josefina Bueno, who has inaugurated the offices of the center in the Elche Business Park, which will house the management and administrative unit, as indicated by the Generalitat in a statement.

The inauguration was also attended by the mayor of Elche, Carlos González, the autonomous secretary of Universities and Research, Auxi Jordá, the secretary of the Board of Trustees of ICAR, Antonio Gonzálvez and the rector of the University Miguel Hernández, Juan José Ruiz.

"The center will lead international research on ageing, with which, from Alicante, we will contribute to not only living longer, but also to living as long as possible in good health and full physical and mental capacities," Bueno said.

The Aging Center is part of the overall strategy of the Generalitat Valenciana to "attract, retain and consolidate human talent" for the formation of research teams of excellence that can respond to the needs of the society of the future.

"The commitment of this Council is to turn the Valencian Community into a community that leads the transition towards a new production model. To do this, we are committed to science, excellence and the attraction of talent, and this center is a clear example of our commitment to innovation and quality research and to the service of the citizenry", emphasized the minister.

In this sense, he added that ICAR is a reality "thanks to public-private collaboration" and stressed that it represents the "effort" of the Generalitat to "turn the province of Alicante into a leading research environment, with a scientific community vanguard that will contribute to the cohesion and structuring of the Valencian territory from the Alicante-Elche axis".

In this regard, he mentioned some of the projects that the Consell has carried out in the province of Alicante, such as locating the Department of Innovation in the center of the city, the creation of the Digital District technology hub, the innovative ecosystem of the Port of Alicante or the boost to the audiovisual industry thanks to the recovery of Ciudad de la Luz. "With the inauguration of ICAR we add one more project to this province", he stressed.

For his part, the mayor of Elche, Carlos González, stressed that the opening of the Aging Center "gives a great boost to the project of the municipal government team of Elche to bet on research, knowledge and innovation as a driving force of economic development and to achieve the diversification of the industrial fabric".

"Elche is going to lead a line of international research that is essential for the future well-being of the entire population. In addition, it is doing so in a Business Park where cutting-edge projects related to aerospace research, robotics, medicine or artificial intelligence are emerging", The first mayor has finished.
