Sentenced to small fines 75 of the 82 accused for the fight between Dépor and Atleti fans in which 'Jimmy' died

He acquits another 7 of the crime of fighting and 10 of illegal possession of weapons

MADRID, 30 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Criminal Court number 23 of Madrid has sentenced to fines of between 300 and 1,350 euros 75 accused of participating in 2014 in the capital in a fight between fans of Deportivo de La Coruña and Atlético de Madrid, in which he died in the Manzanares a follower from A Coruña, Francisco Javier Romero, alias 'Jimmy'.

In the court ruling, to which Europa Press has had access, magistrate Juan Antonio Toro Peña sentences 75 people for the crime of injuries in a riot and two of them also for attacking and injuring a national police to a fine of 900 euros and to compensate the agent with 4,500 euros plus costs and interest. He acquits another 7 of the crime of fighting and 10 of illegal possession of weapons.

The trial for the massive fight in the vicinity of the Manzanares River began on December 1 in different judicial venues, including Madrid, La Coruña and Gijón, to avoid clashes between the radical groups. Seventy of the defendants admitted to the facts in order to benefit from extenuating circumstances.

The prosecutor and the parties closed an agreement whose negotiations had been underway for weeks, according to legal sources detailed to Europa Press. The substantial reduction in the sentences is due to the fact that all the defendants are mitigating undue delays due to the delay in the processing of the procedure.

During the massive brawl, some people threw a badly injured Depor fan known as 'Jimmy' into the Manzanares river. The homicide was investigated for years but finally the case was closed due to the lack of a known perpetrator and no one has come to trial. However, the Madrid Court will have the last word on the matter.

The prosecutor reports that the defendants agreed on social networks to go to the surroundings of the Vicente Calderón stadium at 9:00 a.m. with the "sole motivation of demonstrating to the other group the supremacy of their team and the ideology with which they identify." .

Some of them carried "prohibited weapons and dangerous instruments such as wooden or aluminum sticks, batons, baseball bats, knives, carabiners, and extendable defenses." As a result of the brawl, several were injured and one of them, 'Jimmy', died.

On the other hand, the National Professional Soccer League, which has acted as the prosecution in this case, requested for the defendants up to three and a half years in prison and fines of up to 117,000 euros, as stated in the order to open the oral trial.
