OECD adopts Statement on Government Access to Personal Data Held by the Private Sector

MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ministerial Conference of the Digital Economy Committee, of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), has adopted this Friday the Declaration on government access to personal data held by the private sector.

The document has been adopted within the framework of the conference on the digital economy, which has been chaired by the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño in Gran Canaria. The representation by the Ministry of Justice has been the undersecretary, Ana Sánchez.

The Declaration, as reported by the Ministry of Justice in a statement, shows the commitment of the member countries so that government access to data in the hands of the private sector complies with personal data protection standards.

Something that facilitates "the international flow of data and reinforces", according to the Ministry directed by Pilar Llop, "legal certainty and mutual trust between the subscribed countries".

The document, in whose drafting Justice has participated, also has the objective of guaranteeing the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crimes against the privacy of people. In addition, the adoption of this Declaration by the OECD aims to strengthen access to information through cross-border cooperation.

In this sense, a common framework of guarantees of democratic principles and respect for the rule of law is contemplated, in order that both public safety and the guarantee of the rights of citizens coexist in balance, with the protection of personal information.
