María Luisa Segoviano, who left the presidency at the head of the Fourth Chamber of the Supreme Court in October after retiring, will now occupy one of the two seats of the Constitutional Court (TC) whose designation corresponds to the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). She was the first woman to be president of the High Court Chamber.

Segoviano, proposed for the TC by the conservative wing although she was one of the nine on the initial list of progressives, entered the judiciary in 1987 and her first destination was the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Bilbao. Two years later, she was assigned to the Social Court number 1 of Valladolid, where she remained until 1996, the year in which she was appointed president of the Social Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León.

She remained in that position until 2006, at which time she was appointed magistrate of the Fourth Chamber of the Supreme Court, according to the portal of the Judiciary. It was in June 2020 when she, as a result of the retirement of Jesús Gullón, took office as president of that Chamber.

Segoviano is the author of works such as 'Social Law of the European Union', 'Essential principles of Labor Law', 'The principle of equal treatment in salary matters in the field of Public Administrations', 'Responsibility in Social Security ' or 'Equality in the world of work and in the company'. She has also published numerous doctrinal articles.

In addition, he has actively participated in training activities of the General Council of the Judiciary and was a member of the Central Electoral Board, a position he also held between 2012 and 2017.

President of the Academy of Legislation and Jurisprudence of Valladolid since 2016, she is an honorary academic of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Spain since 2018 and an honorary academic of the Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation of Extremadura since 2019.
