Laura Díez Bueso, a professor at the University of Barcelona, ​​adviser to the Catalan Government for the reform of the Statute and a former senior position in the Ministry of the Presidency of the Government of Pedro Sánchez, will be one of the proposals, together with the former Minister of Justice Juan Carlos Campo, to occupy one of the two corresponding seats in the Constitutional Court.

Although he has an academic profile, his career has turned to politics in recent years and so much so that he has held important positions in the Government of Pedro Sánchez. In fact, since February 2020 --when former Vice President Carmen Calvo appointed her-- and until 2022, she has held the position of General Director of Constitutional Affairs and Legal Coordination of the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory .

The circumstance arises that, after a month in that position, the coronavirus pandemic broke out in 2020, which led the Executive to decree both the first state of alarm and its extension, a decree that the TC later --to which it will now accede-- declared unconstitutional.

Before, from 2018 to 2020, she was director in that same ministry of the cabinet of the Secretary of State for Relations with the Courts of the Ministry of the Presidency (2018-2020).

Previously, from 2004 to 2010, she was attached to the Síndic de Greuges de Catalunya -the Catalan Ombudsman-, a position she reached after having been one of the advisers to the Government of the Generalitat for the reform of the Statute of Catalonia ( 2002-2004).

Díez Bueso (Barcelona, ​​1969) has a PhD in Law from the University of Barcelona and has been Professor of Constitutional Law at the same university since January 2020. She has held the position of director of the Department of Political Science, Constitutional Law and Philosophy of Law (2016 -2018); that of director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Law (2015-2017); director of the Master's in Advanced Legal Studies (2014-2015), and delegate of the rector for regulatory planning (2011-2013).

As a teacher, he has developed his work since 1992 at all academic levels, mainly at the University of Barcelona but also at other state and foreign universities. In addition to the field of Law, she has also taught in other degrees such as Political Science and Administration, Audiovisual Communication, Business Administration and Management or Public Administration and Management.

On the website of the Consell de Garanties Estatutàries de Catalunya, of which she has been vice-president since May of this year, it is also indicated that she is an expert in human rights for the UN's 'Crisis Bureau's Deployment Mechanism' since 2016; she and she holds the category of 'International Expert in Human Rights'.

In addition, she was appointed expert of the Euralius Project of the European Commission in 2012 and 2013, expert of two Twinning Projects financed by the European Union in 2009 and 2013 in Serbia and Turkey, and expert in Democratic Governance of the Organization for Security and the Cooperation in Europe-OSCE, appointed in 2008.

According to that portal, his main lines of research are decentralized states, and freedom of expression and the right to information, among others. In relation to this second field, Díez has been a member of the group of experts for the elaboration of the Charter of digital rights of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation since 2018.

Díez Bueso is the author of multiple monographs and scientific articles such as 'The limits of artistic creation in the United States and Europe', 'Between expression and hate speech', and 'Research systems in decentralized European countries'.
