La Unión Progressista de Fiscales urges the CGPJ to issue a new block to "facilitate" the renovation

The Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF) has once again urged the members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to "resign en bloc" to "thus facilitate the already urgent renewal" of the governing body of the judges.

The association has issued a statement this Friday after the negotiations between the formation led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the PSOE were suspended last night to renew the governing body of the judges, which has been in office since 2018 due to the lack of agreement of both formations to choose the 20 members that correspond to them.

The Union has reiterated the request that it sent on July 30, 2021 to the members of the CGPJ so that "in an exercise of coherence, dignity and constitutional responsibility" they resign "en bloc".

So far, from the Council they have ruled out a collective resignation. Already last September -during the opening of the judicial year-, the then president of the body, Carlos Lesmes, ruled out the possibility of a "collective resignation" of the members and reproached those who insinuate that if it were not done, it would be revealing irresponsible behavior.

Within the framework of the statement, the association has reproached the PP for "preventing" the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) "once again." In his opinion, "this situation of blockade" places the Rule of Law in an "unprecedented crisis situation."

PP and PSOE had resumed talks to renew the governing body of the judges after, last Sunday, October 9, Carlos Lesmes announced that the next day he would resign as president of the CGPJ and the Supreme Court.

This week the agreement seemed "imminent", as it had also happened on previous occasions. This time, the PP has decided to leave the table because the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has confirmed to the leader of the 'popular', Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the reform of the crime of sedition, as indicated by the party in a statement.

The PSOE, in its own statement, has accused Núñez Feijóo of "using a new excuse" to break off the negotiations and has accused him of "not resisting" the pressures "from the most reactionary right" which, in his opinion, have been "boycotting" the talks between the two parties.
