Zelensky warns that the coming weeks will be "difficult" for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, assured this Monday that Russian troops have carried out "a massacre" in the east of the country, in the Donbas region, and has warned that the coming weeks "will be difficult" in the framework of the Russian invasion of the country.

"The most difficult fighting situation today is in Donbas. Bakhmut, Popasna, Severodonetsk. In this direction the occupiers have concentrated their greatest activity so far (...) They are trying to destroy everything that lives there. Literally. No one destroyed Donbas as much as the Russian Army does now," he said.

The Ukrainian president has thus indicated that the Russian troops "strive" to "demonstrate" that "they will not abandon the occupied areas" of the Kharkov region, Kherson, as well as the territory of the Zaporizhia region. "They are going on the offensive in some areas. The reserves are building up. They are trying to strengthen their positions," he said.

Faced with the difficulties posed by these attacks, Zelenski has indicated that "there are no alternatives" other than "fighting", for which he has asked to work on the needs of the State, both on international "platforms" and in communication with foreign journalists or "with friends and acquaintances abroad".

He also specified that in Desna, in the Chernigov region, the security and rescue forces have completed the debris clearance, resulting in the appearance of 87 bodies. "And these were only four missiles," she said.

"In total, since February 24, the Russian Army has launched 1,474 missile attacks against Ukraine, using 2,275 different missiles. The vast majority were aimed at civilian objects. In less than three months, there have been more than 3,000 attacks air traffic from Russian planes and helicopters," he added.

Thus, the Ukrainian president has once again requested, in his usual evening speech, "full and urgent assistance", especially weapons, since this request "is the real life of many people who would not have died" if all the weapons had been received that kyiv has asked for.

"Our representatives in Davos are working to provide Ukraine with more financial and humanitarian support. And for all diplomats the absolute priority is weapons and ammunition for our state," he concluded.
