The Ukrainian government reiterates that it will continue with the Istanbul protocol despite the bombing

MADRID, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukraine's President Volodimir Zelensky has stated that Russia's missile attack on the port of Odessa on Saturday simply shows that Moscow is looking for ways to renege on the grain export deal signed just a day earlier with the United Nations, Turkey. and Ukraine.

"This proves only one thing: no matter what Russia says and promises, it will find ways to break it," Zelensky lamented in a video posted on Telegram after the condemnations of the last hours of the European Union and the United States, waiting for for Russia to rule on the incident.

The Ukrainian authorities have denounced this Saturday the impact of at least two missiles on the port of the city, one of those included in the agreement signed this Friday between Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN to resume grain exports, essential for the humanitarian aid and right now paralyzed by war.

Shortly before, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov, guaranteed that Ukraine will continue to comply with the conditions of the Istanbul pact, for the part that corresponds to them.

Although the Russian attack "demonstrates the true intentions of Moscow", the minister assured that the bombings "will not stop the work of the Ukrainian authorities. "We do not trust Russia, but we trust our partners and allies, that is why the Initiative on the Safe transportation of grain and food products from Ukrainian ports was signed with the UN and Turkey, and not with Russia," he recalled.

The United Nations has also condemned the attack "unequivocally", according to the deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Farhan Haq. "Yesterday, all parties made a clear commitment to the world to ensure the safe movement of Ukrainian grain and its related products," he recalled.

"Millions of people around the world need these products to alleviate the global food crisis and its suffering of the affected population. It is imperative that the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Turkey fully comply with the provisions," he added.
