Von der Leyen applauds the energy saving measures in Spain and points out that they contribute to the EU objectives

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, this Wednesday applauded the energy saving measures implemented in Spain and other Member States of the European Union, in particular the regulation of air conditioning, noting that they contribute to the objectives of the EU for the winter.

In a series of messages on social networks, the head of the Community Executive has revealed that saving measures are already underway in several European countries and, specifically, has indicated that setting "somewhat higher" temperatures for air conditioning get "impressive results".

At this point, Von der Leyen has given Spain as an example, indicating that together with the Czech Republic and Slovenia, it includes measures of this type in its energy saving plans. "Together, we save energy to have a safe winter," reads the message from the community president, who states that the savings calculated by Brussels by putting the air conditioning to a higher degree is equivalent to the energy consumption of a Member State like Malta.

Likewise, the German conservative highlights another measure launched by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, such as lowering the heating by one degree in homes, which according to Von der Leyen can save 7 percent of energy in one year.

"I am encouraged to see that several Member States such as Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy or the Netherlands have put in place measures to optimize the use of heating. This will help our joint objective of saving 15 percent", he defended.

Spain has agreed to a 7 percent voluntary reduction in gas consumption as part of the Brussels plan to prepare for possible supply cuts by Russia and ensure supplies for next winter.

This is half of the figure agreed by the Twenty-seven to reduce gas consumption by 15 percent until spring and which lowers the gas saving ambition for Spain and Portugal.
