Villarejo declares next Friday in the AN for the alleged plot to sell information from prison

MADRID, 5 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The now retired commissioner José Manuel Villarejo will appear next Friday before the judge of the National High Court who is investigating his private businesses to testify as a defendant on the alleged existence of a plot to sell to the highest bidder the sensitive information he handled while he was in provisional prison.

This time, the head of the Central Court of Instruction Number 6, Manuel García-Castellón, will take a statement from him in relation to this alleged operation, which is investigated in the separate piece number 28 of 'Tándem'.

In one of his last writings on this matter, the commissioner's defense defended Villarejo's "absolute lack of participation" in the events for which he is being investigated in this piece 28, while asking to locate the "source" of the information that they would have been offered.

This line of investigation began with a complaint filed in 2020 at the police headquarters by the owner of the Method 3 detective agency, Francisco Marco. Villarejo maintains that the true objective of said complaint was to promote the searches in his cell and in his house that took place in October of that year to seize more documentation.

This court appearance will coincide with the trial that has been going on in the National High Court since last October against Villarejo and another thirty defendants for the pieces 'Iron', 'Land' and 'Pintor', which will resume on Monday and will continue until Thursday.

In this oral hearing, the espionage work that the business structure of Villarejo, CENYT, would have done for individuals, businessmen and a law firm using the police means at its disposal is analyzed. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor asks that he be sentenced to 109 years in prison for it.
