Valencian Community, Murcia, C-LM and Catalonia, the most indebted CCAAs in 2023

MADRID, 5 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) foresees that the Valencian Community, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia will be the regions with the most indebtedness in 2023. In the case of the former, the agency estimates a regional debt to GDP ratio of 43.9%, while the figure for Murcia is 34.3%, Castilla-La Mancha 34.1% and Catalonia 31.6%.

These are data exposed this week by the president of AIReF, Cristina Herrero, at the conference 'Debt and sustainability of regional finances' organized by IVIE. Specifically, the agency highlights that the communities accumulate high levels of debt, although with a disparate situation between communities.

In this sense, after the Valencian Community, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia, the AIReF debt ratio forecast places the Balearic Islands (23.4%); Extremadura (22.5%); Cantabria (21.4%); Andalusia (20.8%); Aragon (20.7%); Castilla y León (20.4%); Galicia (16.9%); La Rioja (15.9%) and Asturias (15.4%).

According to these forecasts, below 15% of the regional debt to GDP ratio are the Community of Madrid (13.3%); Navarre (12.1%); Basque Country (11.8%) and the Canary Islands (11.8%).

In any case, all the Autonomous Communities will reduce this debt ratio with respect to 2021, as shown in the graph offered by AIReF, the same as with respect to 2022, except for Murcia, which, according to AIReF forecasts, will increase its 2023 debt compared to last year.
