United We Can demands from the PP a "gesture" that it wants to renew the CGPJ and ask that it name the magistrates for the TC

MADRID, 13 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

United We Can has demanded a "gesture" from the PP to show that it wants to end the blockade situation of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and help the conservative sector of the organization name once and for all the two magistrates that it must propose to the Constitutional Court (TC), since the opposite will be interpreted as a "bad sign".

In statements to the media in the corridors of Congress, the deputy spokesman for the group in Congress and IU deputy, Enrique Santiago, has stressed that work is being done within the Executive "in a discreet way" to try to renew the governing body of the judges, and thus "not give excuses" to the PP to access the unlocking.

"We hope that at today's meeting there will be a gesture from the PP, do their homework and help to end this blockade situation, comply with the Constitution and elect the two magistrates of the TC that must be appointed (by the CGPJ), has Santiago emphasized to stress that if the main opposition party alleges "empty" issues, it will be a sign of its lack of will to favor the replacement of constitutional bodies.

For her part, the second vice president and leader of the confederal space in the Executive, Yolanda Díaz, has indicated that United We Can is perfectly aware of the details of the negotiation on the CGPJ.

Last Tuesday, the minority partner of the coalition refused to link the renewal of this organization with changes in the system for electing members, understanding that this would be giving in to the "blackmail" that it poses to the PP.

"The law is not negotiated, the law is obeyed," emphasized the president of the parliamentary group Jaume Asens to demand that the PP first replace the members with an expired mandate and then open the debate on the model of appointments in the Judicial Power if wants.

On the other hand, United We Can believe that the group of conservative members of the CGPJ must resign like former President Carlos Lesmes and maintains that the Executive must now appoint the two magistrates of the corresponding TC, without waiting for the governing body of the judges. However, the purples have little confidence that the PP is willing to reach an agreement to unblock the CGPJ.
