United We Can ask Ribera for aid for a 'renewal plan' of boilers in the face of the risk of a gas cut by Russia

MADRID, 19 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

United We Can has proposed this Tuesday to the Vice President for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, a line of aid to facilitate the replacement of gas boilers with other technologies due to the risk of a possible cut in supply by Russia .

This is one of the proposals launched by its spokesman, Pablo Echenique, during the meeting of the third vice president with the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups, sources from United We Can have informed Europa Press.

Specifically, the confederal group has proposed at the meeting a line of aid so that homes and buildings that have their heating with natural gas can change their system for other technologies that do not depend on gas, such as electric boilers, aerothermal energy or biomass.

United We Can argue that this substitution would reduce gas consumption, increase Spain's energy sovereignty, in many cases reduce the bill and advance the ecological transition in the direction of reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Despite the fact that the meeting was convened from 12:30 p.m. at the Ministry's headquarters in Madrid, Echenique has participated electronically, after participating in a round table organized by Podemos, within the framework of the summer courses of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), in San Lorenzo del Escorial.

The meeting is part of the round of meetings announced last week by the Government in order to prepare the contingency plan that Spain has to prepare in the face of the threat of a possible gas supply cut by Russia.

Last week, the third vice president received the electricity (Aelec) and gas (Sedigás) employers, representatives of the oil sector, social agents and consumer and user organizations.

With this plan, the Executive seeks to reinforce the level of gas storage, a more efficient use of energy and the substitution of gas for other fuels wherever possible, together with an electrification of demand and greater renewable generation capacity.

The measures in this plan are part of the European Union's strategy to deal with this possible gas supply cutoff by Russia. On July 21 it will be known if the Russians decide to restore the passage of gas to Germany through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, closed to address routine maintenance tasks.

A meeting of the leaders of the European Union is scheduled for July 26 in order to agree on a common strategy in the face of this possible cut in supply, based on the contingency plans that each member country must submit next week.
