Ukraine warns that the risk of invasion by Belarus "begins to grow"

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukraine's Interior Ministry said on Monday that the risk of invasion by Belarus is "relatively minimal", but warned that "it is beginning to grow" due to the sending of troops by Russia.

"As of today, the risks of invasion remain relatively minimal. But due to the fact that the Russians have begun to transfer additional forces there, they are beginning to grow," said Viktor Andrusiv, adviser to the Interior portfolio.

At this point, Andrusiv has stressed that the Belarusian troops will not invade Ukraine by their own means, but, in any case, they will do so under the umbrella of Russia and its military support, according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.

"If this happens, they will be combined troops that will include groups of Russian and Belarusian battalions," specified the Ukrainian official, who considers that it is difficult for the invading forces to surround the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"There is no such danger, because the total number of combat-ready Belarusian troops is a maximum of 9,000, and their combat capacity is a great unknown. 9,000 cannot mount any boilers," he said.

Thus, Andrusiv has shown his conviction that the main role of the Belarusian troops in a hypothetical invasion would be to push back the Ukrainian troops and cut off communications, as well as occupy the main weapons storage points. "They are not capable of more," he said.

Over the past week, several detachments of the Russian Army have arrived at points on Belarusian territory near the border with Ukraine. According to the aforementioned agency, the objective of these troops would be to destroy residential buildings, schools and hospitals in the Belarusian city and accuse Ukraine of doing so.

This weekend there has been an attack from Belarus to Ukraine in order, according to kyiv, to involve Minsk in the war. In fact, the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, already warned days ago that Russia and the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, were leading the European country towards war between Russia and Ukraine.
